Belfast Cathedral’s Family Service

All the children baptised in Belfast Cathedral during the last 5 years along with their families were invited to a special service on 29th June at 1pm in the side chapel.  It was a chance to reconnect with the ministry team at St. Anne’s and make new friendships with other families as well as take part in a child friendly service of thanksgiving named “Our Children.”

The children participated in the first part of the service learning a new action song. They then joined Jill Hamilton (Diocesan Children’s worker and Catherine Harper (Musical Director at Belfast Cathedral) for activities in the hall whilst the parents and grandparents enjoyed the service. A bit of additional help from some grandparents was very welcome downstairs too!

Down in the hall is where the real action was as the children made some fabulous musical instruments including balloon drums and shakers. Even the very youngest enjoyed taking part and everyone had a noisy shaker to take back up to the concluding part of the service.

We sang our new song again, this time with the homemade percussion instruments adding that extra special touch! “Make a joyful noise unto the Lord all ye land” says Psalm 100 and we did just that –and very enthusiastically too!

Afterwards there was time to chat and eat with a great spread of savoury and sweet treats to put everyone in a good mood. We are looking forward to the next time when we can meet together, praise God and enjoy each other’s company.
