Two churches who have taken up our Baby Basics 4 week challenge recently are Lambeg Parish and Greenisland Parish. Both parishes linked the challenge into their Harvest celebrations. As a way of thanking God for all the blessing He has provided to them, they wanted to help others in need.
Sister Karen Webb spoke at Lambeg Parish and the Hilden centre in September and filled everyone in on Baby Basics Belfast and how the church could support us by taking part in our 4 week challenge. The rector Rev Eddie Coulter is very supportive of Baby Basics and sees it as a way for the parish to reach out to people in the community and show God’s love in a practical way.
The parish took on the challenge in both locations and at the end of the month had a fantastic array of donations for our starter packs as well as some Moses baskets (which we were really grateful for!).
Greenisland Parish also took on the 4 week challenge in October and we were overwhelmed with their generosity and support for Baby Basics Belfast. Jill Hamilton (Connor’s Children’s development officer) spoke at the Sunday service in Greenisland in September and she explained all about who we help at Baby Basics and how we have linked in with health professionals to get referrals of families in need of support.
The Greenisland congregation have such a generous heart for giving and already do so much to support both the local community and further afield. Their African Shop helps the local community by providing low cost high quality groceries, and all the proceeds go to charity work in Africa. Their rector Rev Paul Lyons encourages and supports the congregation to have a missional heart and so was happy to take on supporting Baby Basics as well as all the other things the parish does. The congregation were very keen to help local families and gave with heartfelt generousity.
Mossley Parish had already supported Baby Basics earlier this year, but when chief organiser Maureen Steenson heard that some parishioners had a few more items they wanted to give, she decided to have another collection. She left a container labelled Baby Basics at the back of the church and kept it all fairly low key as people had already given. She was really pleased to discover that the congregation responded very generously again. Jill met with Maureen and collected all the extra items last week so a huge thank you to Mossley for both generous donations to Baby Basics. Your donations really do make a difference to the lives of families in need across the Belfast area.
