Two churches who have taken up our Baby Basics 4 week challenge recently are Lambeg Parish and Greenisland Parish. Both parishes linked the challenge into their Harvest celebrations. Baby Basics Belfast is growing from strength to strength and we are delighted to say that we now have given out 34 starter packs consisting of either a Moses basket or another container such as a baby bath or laundry basket filled full of essential items for mother and baby. August has been a busy month for Baby Basics Belfast. We have had 8 referrals this month and have sent out 8 starter packs; 6 starter packs with Moses baskets and 2 others without Moses baskets. For families that already have a Moses basket we pack up all the items in a laundry basket which could also be used for storing nappies or toys.
Baby Basics Belfast began in January 2017 and is one of the projects being run by Connor’s Centre of Mission and is located in the Connect Base on the Shankill Road. The project is being led by Jill Hamilton (Diocesan Children’s Officer) and Karen Webb (Church Army Evangelist). The Belfast branch is one of a growing number of Baby Basic Branches across the UK.
Our Equipped Training morning took place on Saturday 6th May in Randalstown Parish. The morning was a joint effort this year, organised by Connor’s Children’s and Youth Councils. We were therefore able to offer workshops for leaders working with Children’s ministry and those involved in Youth ministry. There was a huge amount waiting at Glenavy church hall –so much so that it took 2 car loads to bring everything to the Connect Base!
